Introducing Mini-Wai 1.7: A Cutting-Edge Resource for Visual Artists
12/12/25 UPDATE: (v 1.7) Open AI has issued model 5.2 as default.
11/5/2025 UPDATE: (v 1.7) Added The Waichulis Teaching Manual v 1.0 to the knowledge base. This should make answers about implementation of the Waichulis Curriculum far more accurate and useful.
8/7/25 UPDATE: (1.5) Following a recent change to the GPT platform, Mini-Wai has been experiencing issues accessing some of its knowledge base via the “mclick” mechanism, which may lead it to generate some answers in the absence of vetted information. Recently, we have found that Model 5 (or +) yields the best performance. For best results, ensure you are currently using Model 5 (or newer) or switch to it by pressing the down arrow next to the Mini-Wai title in the upper left corner of the Mini-Wai interface screen.
5/5/25 UPDATE: Major expansion of the Mini-Wai Lexicon from 319 entries to 1,061. The lexicon is now far more robust with usages and explanations that are vetted for validity, soundness, cogency, empirical support and historical accuracy (when approrpriate.) Several other updates have also been deployed as well. As such, Mini-Wai 1.2 has been updated to Mini-Wai 1.5.
Welcome to Mini-Wai 1.5 (Waichulis Art Resource)—an advanced tool designed to support artists immersed in the Waichulis Curriculum, ÀNI Art Academies students, and creatives dedicated to refining their understanding of realist drawing and painting. This AI-powered resource provides empirical, structured, and scientifically-backed insights into art materials, techniques, perception, and expertise development.
Unlike more general art resources, Mini-Wai 1.5 builds responses from the carefully crafted definitions, methodologies, and instructional strategies outlined in the Waichulis Curriculum Lexicon, ensuring accuracy, clarity, and alignment with the training principles developed by Anthony Waichulis. Whether you’re exploring visual perception, color theory, deliberate practice, or material permanence, Mini-Wai offers fact-based, non-speculative responses rooted in the latest research and expert guidance.
This tool is particularly valuable for:
- Waichulis Curriculum learners seeking precise definitions and clarifications.
- ANI Art Academies students refining their technical proficiency.
- Artists, educators, and researchers interested in perceptual science, pictorial composition, and expertise acquisition.
Mini-Wai Usage Disclaimer
The information provided by Mini-Wai is intended to support inquiry into visual art, perception, and related scientific principles, primarily informed by the Waichulis Curriculum and affiliated empirical resources. However, while this resource draws on curated and verified materials, it operates through GPT-based technologies and may be subject to occasional error, misinterpretation, or the inclusion of outdated or incomplete data.
All users are strongly advised to consult with a qualified instructor or subject-matter expert before applying any information or instructional strategies in practice. Mini-Wai should be considered a supplementary tool and not a substitute for expert guidance, formal instruction, or critical review. Please use discretion and verify all critical information independently.
PLEASE READ ALL OF THE FOLLOWING CAREFULLY PRIOR TO INTERACTION WITH MINI-WAI.
Mini-Wai 1.5 works to minimize the influence of generic opinions or artistic dogma—prioritizing structured, evidence-based responses derived from a hierarchy of trusted sources, including the Online Waichulis Lexicon, ANI instructional texts, and empirical research on perception and expertise.
If you are looking to deepen your understanding of art from a scientifically and academically rigorous perspective, Mini-Wai 1.5 is your ideal companion.
While Mini-Wai 1.5 is designed to prioritize the Waichulis Curriculum Lexicon and related resources, it also aims to provide comprehensive information by drawing from a variety of empirical, academic, and expert sources when necessary. However, because many widely available art resources contain ambiguous language, inconsistencies, or unverified claims, there may be instances where an answer appears incorrect, incomplete, or unclear. Mini-Wai does not copy and paste information verbatim; rather, it synthesizes data to construct logical, structured responses. If you ever suspect an answer contains nebulous terminology, imprecise reasoning, or does not fully align with the Waichulis Lexicon, we encourage you to ask for clarification on specific language or simply inquire, “Does this answer reconcile with the Waichulis Lexicon or related materials?” This ensures that all responses maintain the highest standards of accuracy, consistency, and alignment with the core principles of the Waichulis Curriculum.
It is also important to understand that Mini-Wai 1.5 is a highly organic resource—one that will continuously evolve through use. As we engage with it, we will learn together, refining its accuracy, depth, and practical application over time. Because of this, user feedback is crucial in shaping Mini-Wai into the most effective tool possible.
IMPORTANT: PLEASE FEEL FREE TO USE THE BUILT-IN FEEDBACK SYSTEM IN MINI-WAI IF YOU LIKE. JUST CLICK THE THUMBS-UP OR THUMBS-DOWN TO RATE THE ANSWER YOU WERE GIVEN.
Furthermore, if you have comments, concerns, questions, or any feedback, we strongly encourage you to participate in the Smartermarx forum dynamic by sharing your thoughts in the thread below. This will allow Anthony Waichulis and others to analyze, evaluate, and refine Mini-Wai’s performance and overall usefulness. Your insights help ensure that Mini-Wai remains a precise, reliable, and valuable resource for all artists engaging with the Waichulis Curriculum and beyond.
Sometimes, clarification and correction are necessary to ensure that Mini-Wai 1.5 fully understands what is being asked. Because it generates responses based on patterns in structured information, certain assumptions may be made if a question is ambiguous or lacks specific details. If an answer seems incorrect or incomplete, refining the question can lead to a more accurate response.
For example, when asked why the application and manipulation of white pastel is so challenging, Mini-Wai initially responded that it was due to the material being low-binder and soft. However, once it was clarified that the question referred specifically to General’s Charcoal White, Mini-Wai adjusted its response to explain the difference in formulation, why it is problematic in exercises like gradation blocks, and how it behaves differently from traditional pastel.
Similarly, when asked to speculate on the durability of a sanded practice panel, Mini-Wai initially based its answer on a common 3-5 layer priming method. However, after being corrected with details about a 10-layer application and orbital sander usage, it adjusted its response accordingly, providing a more precise expectation of durability.
REMEMBER:
- If an answer seems off, ask yourself if the question needs more specificity.
- Mini-Wai does not assume every material, technique, or method aligns with Waichulis practices unless explicitly stated.
- Clarify assumptions, refine your question, or ask for an alternative explanation if needed.
- Most importantly, all students should always review answers with their instructor to ensure alignment with curriculum objectives and instructional guidance.
Don’t Be Afraid to Ask for Simpler Explanations
While Mini-Wai 1.5 strives to be as precise and informative as possible, some of the terminology and explanations—especially those drawn from the Waichulis Curriculum Lexicon and related resources—can be quite dense. If you ever find an answer too complex or difficult to digest, just ask:
“Can you make that simpler for me?”
Mini-Wai will immediately adjust its response, breaking down concepts in more accessible terms without sacrificing key information. However, keep in mind that the more an answer is simplified, the more nuance and depth may be lost. Some subjects require a balance between accuracy and accessibility, so feel free to ask for alternative explanations if needed.
The goal is to help you fully understand the material, not overwhelm you with jargon. So don’t hesitate—ask for clarity whenever necessary!
Language Preferences & Communication
Mini-Wai 1.5 is capable of conversing in a wide range of languages to better accommodate individual users. While it will typically default to your location-based language, it may not always do so automatically. If you prefer responses in a specific language, simply ask:
“Can you answer in [preferred language]?”
Mini-Wai will adjust accordingly and continue the conversation in your chosen language. If you ever encounter issues with linguistic accuracy, phrasing, or clarity, please let us know in the comment fields below. Your feedback helps us evaluate and refine Mini-Wai’s multilingual capabilities to ensure the best possible experience for all users.
This resource does not engage in open-ended or non-specific “cold critiques” of artwork as such activities often devolve into exercises of personal preference, subjective taste, or anecdotal convention. The primary function of this platform is to provide structured, evidence-based evaluations that align with perceptual science, pictorial composition principles, and the methodologies of the Waichulis Curriculum.
Non-specific (i.e., Cold) Critiques
Artists seeking feedback are encouraged to submit specific, clearly defined questions or criteria for evaluation (e.g., value structure, edge control, perceptual anchoring, surrogate efficacy). This ensures that the feedback remains instructional, empirically grounded, and relevant to deliberate development within a skill-based framework. Please avoid uploading artwork for evaluation beyond something VERY specific and clearly identified.
Please Note on Uploaded Images:
It is important to recognize that any images uploaded for review or evaluation—whether for feedback on geometry, gradation, value, or color—will be inherently subject to the translation impacts of the media used to record and transmit them. Photographs of artwork, for instance, may introduce distortions in perspective, lighting conditions, contrast levels, color fidelity, resolution, and scale. These distortions can significantly affect any attempted assessment or analysis. Just as the A1 Problem outlines the unavoidable mediation between object and percept, any surrogate image (e.g., a photograph of a drawing) undergoes additional layers of perceptual and technological translation before it is received. As such, assessments based on such images must be approached with caution, acknowledging the limits of inference due to these compounding variables.
