Most artists are familiar with anatomy, but have you ever investigated the anatomy of a paintbrush? We sacrificed a couple of very nasty old brushes to reveal what’s beneath the ferrule. Professional-grade, interlocked bristle brushes have MUCH longer hairs than cheaper, student-grade brushes. Not only does this greatly improve shape retention, it also makes it possible to peel back (carefully) a strip of metal so dry paint can be removed, and the brush can be restored.
