Erasing tools

Hi Elizabeth,
With the kneadable eraser you can make a fine point by rolling a small lump between the thumb and forefinger to cone. The tip of the cone can be made into a very fine point. Tap the point against the drawing and lift off. The soft point does not permit much pressure before deforming. Just reshape to a point and continue. It requires an Anthony of patience. You can also use a stainless steel eraser shield to mask out an area before erasing. I used to modify these shields by cutting different shapes into them with snips or scissors then dressing with very fine sandpapers. You can also use sandpaper to shape the elastomer erasers. If you are using an electric eraser you can hold the tip against sandpaper and shape it to a cone. Finally, the Tombow Mono Zero ultra-fine 2.3mm mechanical eraser is a nice addition to a drawing kit. Please be careful when using shears, snips, and or scissors, as well as when holding a rapidly turning eraser against a piece of sandpaper it can run away.
