regarding variables, I plan to do all the gradations in a single pass until I’m happier with the finish, the transitions and also the efficiency of execution. Right now in doing a lot of taking the dark too far into the light, the the light too far into the dark, etc

I have a question on paint load. Isn’t there a concern, in terms of longevity of a painting, if you paint too thin of layer of paint? Do you use this thin a layer of paint when painting your actual paintings or is this just for these exercises in LoP?
An excellent question Richard! I have never encountered an assertion that a paint film can be “too thin” in regards to longevity. Granted, you can have issues with thin paint in some contexts (like fat over lean practices), but I have not heard that a thin layer would be less “archival” than a thick one independent of other factors.
And yes, all of the paint application methodologies in the LoP are the same ones I use for my original works.
