Artist Round Table Bi-Monthly Zoom Session Follow-Up Newsletter (02-06-2022)

Greetings, you are receiving this newsletter because you are registered for our Artist Round Table Bi-Monthly Zoom Sessions. We will be sending a follow-up newsletter like this after each session to highlight the key points discussed during the roundtable.

A Big Congratulations to Slade Wheeler for completing a work of a lifetime! His work Love took three and a half years to complete. From hand-carved frame to lock, each piece was meticulously hand-crafted by Slade. To make this work, Slade had to learn everything from wood carving to metal forging to the mechanics of the lock mechanisms. An impressive endeavor that culminated in one of the most marvelous works of art. Take a moment to watch a short video, The Making of the Artwork ‘Love’ by Slade Wheeler.

Congratulation to Dennis DeLomba for securing a guest artist spot in The World Between Time exhibition at the Imago Foundation For The Arts, Warren, Rhode Island. Dennis’ drawings feature his wife July and her work for the National Audubon Society, where she was a volunteer manager and resident butterfly identifier. The work also focuses on July’s current work at Save the Bay in Rhode Island; a major environmental group focused on protecting the ecology of Narragansett Bay. The exhibition will be on view from July 14th through August 21st, 2022.

Valentine’s Day is just around the corner. If you are looking for a unique gift for that special someone (who might adore ravens or simply great artwork), this small painting may well do the trick. Shawna’s painting Frosty Raven (8x8", Acrylic) is up for an auction. The auction ends Sunday, February 13th at 4 pm MST.

The topic of understanding prices in a contemporary art market came up this past zoom session. Below are a few releases that can help you to navigate the topic a little more effectively.
Books:
The $12 Million Stuffed Shark: The Curious Economics of Contemporary Art by Don Thompson
Pricing the Priceless: Art, Artists, and Economics by William D. Grampp

In addition, for those interested in a more “passive” resource on the art market, Natalie Featherston mentioned the Freakonomics Podcast. Three episodes that she recommends on an art market are 484, 485, and 486.

For anyone who is interested in the upcoming Daniel’s Sprick exhibition My Interior Life - the show will open this month at Gerald Peters Contemporary Gallery, in New York. The exhibition will feature the intimate domestic interiors which are the reflections of the seclusion and introspection imposed on Daniel’s creativity by the lockdown from Covid. Show dates: February 11th through March 16th, 2022.
