Is it “ok” or “within the guidelines” to use the stippling technique with my Oval Mop to attain the gradation that is shown? I felt like it worked in this instance but I’m afraid that I might be traveling down a path that’s not desired for fear of future bad habits.

Definitely. However, I would recommend trying it a few different ways to better understand how different approaches might work. I tell all of my students here that I’d rather see the panel look like the aftermath of rampant experimentation rather than a pristine series of executions. They are looking really good though!
