Initial stages of a small drawing

Here are the first couple stages of a picture I decided to dive right into tonight that would be a gift for my grandmother who is dying soon.

I don’t have long to bang it out, so I’m attacking it in a much more cavalier way than I might with a normal creative project for the studio, while still using a simple grid to keep myself oriented. If it comes together I’ll post the rest when it’s done.
