Another of my friends just got married, (was in a band with this guy also) so of course I had to paint him a cheeky portrait too. Really tried to push the sunshine effect and messing about with impastos in the lights. A lot of very purple shadows in this, genuinely surprised at how purple those bits are in isolation. Ended up smashing a bit of an abstract background in there because flat blue sky just wasn’t quite right. Haven’t managed much art in some time so really enjoyed painting this.

This is awesome Martin! Painting such expressions can be crazy challenging but as I said, you did an amazing job. Bravo—I’m sure your friend will be thrilled!!!
