Waichulis Curriculum Long Distance Mentorship Program (WLDM)

Waichulis Curriculum Long Distance Mentorship Program (WLDM)

( For use with Ani Art Academies Language of Drawing and Language of Painting programs )

OVERVIEW:
The Waichulis Curriculum Long Distance Mentorship Program (WLDM) is an educational service offered to select candidates that are logistically separated from an approved WLDM instructor who is versed in the Waichulis Core training program (AAA LoD /LoP) but would otherwise meet all admission requirements for the Ani Art Academies. Candidacy for admission into the WLDM program is strictly at the discretion of an approved WLDM instructor.

INSTRUCTOR REQUIREMENTS:
WLDM approved instructors are responsible for all instruction as laid out in the suggested WLDM program schedule. Each Instructor should focus on maximizing the potential of the medium of interaction that will be employed. WLDM approved instructors will be fluent in all necessary technologies to ensure the quality of their instruction. This includes, but is not limited to:

Operation of Mac/PC
Digital Camera
Scanner
CD/DVD Burner
USB storage devices
Printer
Email
Skype
Zoom
Social Network familiarity (Facebook, Online Forums)
Photoshop (CS/Elements)
Microsoft Word or common equivalent

All WLDM candidates will be given a clear statement of course requirements in advance. This will include (1) Full course outline; (2) Description of WLDM monthly/weekly/ time commitments and specific computer skill requirements; (3) A presentation of the practical difficulties of working with a student long distance and what is needed to manage those challenges successfully; (4) A thorough description of the nature and extent of instruction to be provided. This information will be provided in written form.

Approved WLDM Instructors that are seeking Ani Art Academies Head Instructor positions must guide at least one WLDM participant through the majority of the Waichulis Curriculum Core program (AAA LoD/LoP).

STUDENT REQUIREMENTS:

All WLDM students are required to fill out a WLDM application (provided). Candidates will use the application to declare: (1) that the student possesses and is able to operate the proper equipment required to complete the course ( See list above ); (2) that the student has the skills needed to perform effectively in a writing-based medium; and (3) that the student is self-motivated and holds realistic expectations.

WLDM candidates must already have access to the Ani Art Academies’ Core program ( Language of Drawing and Language of Painting ) DVD series including all related materials. The Core Program DVD series serves as a crucial resource for the WLDM participant.

Interaction between approved instructors and students primarily takes place electronically. Electronic communication may take the form of audio, video, e-mail, chat, or teleconference. The chosen mode(s) of interaction is solely at the discretion of the WLDM instructor. If potential problems with required technologies or communication surface within the candidate’s application, the WLDM candidate may be required to seek additional training prior to enrollment in the WLDM program.

All WLDM candidates will be required to visit the Academy associated with their WLDM approved instructor for a set number of meetings throughout the year. While schedules may be personalized at the discretion of the approved Instructor, a minimum of 1 and a maximum of 2 visits per month are required. WLDM Candidates should expect a minimum of 6-hour workday for their monthly visit(s). Visits must be scheduled at least one month in advance and are subject to available space requirements at the appropriate studio.

The instructor must provide all pertinent contact information at the time of the candidate’s acceptance into the WLDM program.

The WLDM candidate should expect to cover the same amount of material, and the depth with which it is covered within a schedule deemed reasonable by the WLDM approved instructor. Failure to maintain a consistent development schedule would likely result in termination from the WLDM program.

The level of achievement expected of WLDM participants is identical to that of traditional Academy apprentices. The artists trained with the Waichulis Curriculum Core Program are defined by a drive and determination that is essential to meet the program’s many painstaking challenges. The same levels of excellence must apply to both traditional apprentices and WLDM participants.

WLDM participants are not eligible for any Ani Art Academies Merit Scholarships, Material allowances, and/or related Scholarship programs. WLDM participants’ eligibility for all Ani Art Academy related exhibitions and promotional efforts are at the full discretion of their approved WLDM instructor.

Tuition for the WLDM service will not exceed $150.00 per month and is made payable directly to the approved WLDM instructor. The WLDM service is not connected to the Academy associated with the approved WLDM instructor.

RECOMMENDED SCHEDULE:

All WLDM participants should be able to invest a bare minimum of 20-40 hours of deliberate practice each week.* Weekly Reviews of exercises must be scheduled at even intervals, maintaining a minimum of two reviews per week.

All WLDM participants must visit the studio associated with their WLDM approved instructor at least once per month**.

Again, the level of achievement expected of WLDM participants should be comparable with the traditional Academy apprentices. The artists trained with the Waichulis Curriculum Core Program are defined by a drive and determination that is essential to meet the program’s many painstaking challenges. The same levels of excellence must apply to both traditional apprentices and WLDM participants.

*Academy apprentices usually exercise a minimum of 4 hours of deliberate daily practice while keeping tabs on the level of concentration they are able to sustain.

** Variations on the suggested WLDM studio visits are solely at the discretion of the WLDM approved Instructor and will be ultimately governed by the space restrictions at the appropriate Academy.

On the “enrollment” page for Ani Art Academies, it states:
“All Applicants must … have citizenship in the region of the Academy.”

Are there any exceptions or is there any way around this requirement? For example, if I were able to secure a visa of some sort?

Thank you!

Simon
