Here’s my latest… “Sierra Still Life #1” 8x10" oil on panel. This is the first in an ongoing series.
I’m currently in the process of building a frame for it using reclaimed distressed wood that I’ll be finishing with a traditional Dutch Brown/Black finish. I’ll post the materials and process in the “Framing” section when it’s complete.
I think it’s brilliant as well!
the wood of the frame, the trees in the background and the pinecone tell the a story, each in it’s own way, but tying it all together.
The composition, the execution and the colors- all to die for!
Thanks Anthony and Stella! This one was a direct result of me playing with a tube of cad orange, that I bought just for this piece (a color that I hadn’t used before), in hopes of achieving a sharp color contrast that would yield a believable illusion of a luminous twilight sky. I’m glad to know that my playing and experimenting paid off…thanks again
Jeffrey, I haven’t begun making the frame yet. I wanted to use reclaimed wood that has a nice distressed grain that will compliment the grain in the painting (possibly from an old pine moving pallet), but until yesterday it’s been raining non-stop and I need to find some dry wood. Looks like sunshine and clear skies for a while, so hopefully I’ll be able to get started on it later this week. I’ll post a step-by-step after it’s finished…well, as long as it turns out ok and is worth sharing
